The International Workshop ‘Simply not? Ways to strengthen negation’ will take place at the University of Bologna (Italy), May 21, 2019. It is organized by Chiara Gianollo and Caterina Mauri (Università di Bologna, Italy).
Presentations and discussion will revolve around pragmatically marked uses of negation, which often go under the name of “strengthened” or “emphatic” negation. The meeting aims to reach an improved understanding of the various semantic-pragmatic operations and morpho-syntactic means of expression involved, and of the diachronic effects of different types of negation strengthening.
